Why should you study Web Development in Lisbon

Growing tech sceneLisbon is home to Web Summit, by far Europe’s largest technology conference. Drawing in 70k attendees from over 170 countries last year, the conference only continues to grow, and Lisbon’s tech scene with it.
Excited ecosystemBack in 2016, Portugal launched Startup Portugal. This strategy aimed to enliven the Portuguese entrepreneurial ecosystem and attract foreign tech companies. Needless to say, it was a hit. The organization Factory opened an enormous start-up campus in 2019, and the Hub Creative do Beato — a record-breaking incubator — is about to open its doors.
Home to the industry’s giantsAmong the tech giants establishing bases of operation in Lisbon are Volkswagen and Google. Volkswagen has a software development center in Lisbon that employs over 300 software engineers. And Google opened a support center for Europe, the Middle East and Africa that created 500 tech jobs for high-level workers.
Where startups and investors meetRight beside the heavy hitters are dozens of local startups, such as Attentive, Fenzai, Landing.jobs, Uniplaces, Outsystems, Codacy and DefinedCrowd. Likewise, among Lisbon’s many world-class innovators are investors such as Caixa Capital, Faber Ventures and Portugal Ventures.

What sets Lisbon apart?

Lisbon, “The California of Europe,” stands as one of Europe’s major hubs for finance, media, entertainment, commerce, the arts and international trade. Not only is Lisbon host to a booming tech scene, but also a continually affordable cost of living, sublime weather and beaches, and numerous culinary and natural wonders.
This perfect combination of commerce, culture and comfort has attracted a new wave of digital nomads and tech workers. The city welcomes newcomers with open arms. However, this isn’t at the expense of the local culture, as Lisbon’s traditional foods, arts and historical neighborhoods remain well-established.
